The habitual liar Nick Cohen has been caught red-handed on Comment is Free.
His 'article' begins by lying about the reception of jokes about Obama on the Daily Show, as he seeks to build up a group of strawmen his friend Alan Johnson calls the post-left who have a warped relationship with Bush and Obama as a faux dichotomy.
If one watches the clip he refers to (while hoping no one will actually watch it), one notices with astonishment that his description is exactly the opposite of what happens. People laugh heartily at the jokes directed at Obama, and there is no awkward coughing and laughing at all (as Cohen maintains).
He then goes on to use the German expression Tantenverführer, as a neat way of describing Obama. The expression does not exist. This should be enough to disqualify him as a serious journalist and expose him for the fraud that he is.
Two lies in one article, one of which is central to his argument (the post-left don't laugh at Obama, because they see him as the saviour from Bush). How do you think his supporters react? They defend him and turn the thread into an embarrassing display of self-denial.
Delve into the farce, but don't get too upset. They are just propagandists after all.

You are quite right, Cohen et al are snake oil salesmen in the final throws of the snake oil business.
There's a car crash quality to watching them thrash about attempting to shore up their invented castles, which is understandable, but there is a chilling edge to their bizarre defenders who stomp about CiF. Most entertainging watching the dethroning the pseudo-emperor of spin, young zdenekv, who is merely, like Cohen, Kamm and the crew, a narcissist using politics as a vehicle for their own self glorification.

Absolutely. On the one hand it is quite entertaining to engage in all these arguments, but the worrying this is that people like Cohen et al inform and shape people's opinions. It really is the crudest of propaganda. If they were simply free market fanatics who wanted to spread the word, I could accept that more (if they were open about it) than their callous disguise of their aims under the name of human rights, freedom, and democracy. It's the ultimate deceit.
Zdenek is a strange one. I think he is more interested in the issue of rhetoric than anything else. Sadly, he doesn't realise it (at least I hope he doesn't).
I also find it amazing how simplistic zdenek and others understand and receive paradigms. For him (and others) it is merely a question of absolutism and total relativism. He claims to be well versed in philosophy yet he seems hopelessly inadequate in understanding graduation of ideas. The 1980s seem to have passed him by.
